DONNA CHUNG, New York/Brooklyn, USA
The US-american artist Donna Chung was born 1979 in New York and reared in Los Angeles. She graduated from the California College of the Arts in 2008 and the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. Today she lives and works in Brooklyn/New York.
In her work Donna Chung reflects social phenomenons and ubiquitous symbolics searching for references in politics as well as in the entertainment industry. Apparently in a naive manner she is depicting symbols for values of benefit, pragmatism and obligation, often as fakes and replications in form of drawings and objects out of simple and iridescent material what she is bringing into installative settings and performative situations. In so-doing her artistic imitations and re-enactements are irritating the construction and working of things in our everyday world caricaturing conventional thought-models and their image representations.

Project in Leipzig
During her residency, Chung will continue working with ephermeral settings gathering and interfacing everyday situations and circumstances on site. One special focus will be the political change in Germany around 1989/90.
Donna Chung's residence stay is supported by the Consulat of the United States in America in Leipzig.
