*blumen* - künstlerresidenz : rooms

The artist residence BLUMEN provides each artist with a studio room consisting of a working/exhibition space (35 m2) connected to a fully furnished and equipped living area (38 m2). All costs for rent and use are financed by BLUMEN. Internet (W-LAN) and telephone access is available.

All rules and regulations for using the space are handled by the housing contract which must be read and approved before moving into the residence.

A studio-owned technical equipment for artistical use does not exist, but can be arranged with our cooperation partners. To make the work as comfortable as possible, it is important to consult the local responsibilities to provide the necessary equipment in time.

The production costs are only partially funded due to the financial capacities of BLUMEN.

The aritst's residence BLUMEN is located in Leipzig's Kolonnaden Quarter, right west of downtown. Important cultural and educational-political institutions, e.g. the Gallery of Contemporary Art (gfzk), the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB), the Academy of Music and Theatre, the Museum of Fine Arts and the University of Leipzig are all in near distance as well as the municipal parkways.

Leipzig is the most populous (more than 500,000 habitants) and the largest city in the federal state of Saxony. To the capital city of Berlin it's only 150 km, to Dresden 100 km, to Dessau 60 km and to Halle/Saale only 30 km. Having a long tradition of trade Leipzig has been subject of a substantial urbanistic renovation process, so that it offers various open, independant structures for cultural and artistic projects since the German Unification in 1989/90. Moreover, the city can look back on an immense cultural heritage. Many prominent personalities, e.g. J.S. Bach, J.W. v. Goethe, G.W. Leibniz, R. Wagner, F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, W. Heisenberg, A. Horch and K. Liebknecht acted here.

At present, Leipzig has advanced to the leading art metropole of East Germany. Numerous festivals and fairs with national range have been established during the past years. Among others the most important events are the Leipziger Book Fair (since 17th century), the Bach Festival (since 1908), the Festival for Documentation and Animation Film (since 1955), Leipzig's Jazz Days (since 1976), the euro-szene for Experimental Theatre and Modern Dance (since 1991) and the Pop-Up Music Fair (since 2002).
